เมื่อวันที่ 1 พฤศจิกายน 2559 พล.ต.ต.สมพงศ์ ทองใบ ผบก.ภ.จว.ตรัง แถลงข่าวจับกุมผู้ต้องหาจำนวน 2 ราย ทราบชื่อ นายไพศาล นามเพิง อายุ 22 ปี และนายยุทธพิชัย นุ่นแก้ว อายุ 23 ปี แจ้งข้อหาร่วมกันฆ่าผู้อื่นโดยเจตนา

ทั้งสองให้การรับสารภาพว่า เป็นคนที่ใช้อาวุธปืนยิงนายประยุทธ์ โพธาพริก อายุ 41 ปี อาชีพพ่อค้า เนื่องจากไม่พอใจที่ผู้ตายขับรถปาดหน้า เกิดบันดาลโทสะจึงชักปืนลูกซองขึ้นมายิงใส่รถของนายประยุทธ์ จำนวน 2 นัด กระสุนถูกนายประยุทธ์ได้รับบาดเจ็บสาหัส ส่วนรถยนต์ที่นายประยุทธ์ขับเสียหลักพุ่งชนเสาไฟฟ้าข้างทาง พลเมืองดีนำส่ง รพ.ตรัง แต่นายประยุทธ์อาการสาหัสและได้เสียชีวิตในเวลาต่อมา

นายไพศาลและนายยุทธพิชัยยืนยันว่าไม่มีปมขัดแย้งด้านอื่น และไม่เคยรู้จักผู้ตายมาก่อน จนท.จึงยึดของกลางอาวุธปืนลูกซอง 1 กระบอก และรถกระบะยี่ห้อโตโยต้า รุ่นวีโก้ สีขาวไว้เพื่อเป็นหลักฐานในการดำเนินคดีต่อไป

Two teens arrested in fatal shooting of vendor

On November 1, 2016, Police Major General Sompong Thongbai, Commander of Trang Provincial Police, held a press conference to announce the arrest of 2 men: Mr. Phaisarn Nampoeng, 22, and Mr. Yutpichai Nungaew, 23. Both were charged with voluntary manslaughter.

The two offenders confessed that they were the ones who shot Mr. Prayut Pothaprik, a forty-one year old vendor. According to their confessions, they got angry after the victim’s car cut them off. In a fit of rage, Mr. Nampoeng and Mr. Nungaew brought out their shotgun and fired two shots at Mr. Pothaprik’s vehicle, causing severe injury to the victim. Mr. Pothaprik’s car then lost its balance and crashed into a power pole on the side of the road. The victim was brought to Trang hospital by a passerby. However, he was in a serious condition and later died.

Both offenders insisted that they had had no other conflicts with the victim, and they had not known him before the incident. The officials then confiscated their shotgun and their white Toyota-Vigo pickup truck as evidence for later trial.
