Caregiver Network

Over the next decade over 50 million baby boomers in North America are or will be facing the role of caregiver to a parent, relative or elderly friend - an odyssey that will change many of your lives. At the same time countless thousands of seniors face the dilemma of caring for a chronically ill spouse.

Caregiver Network Inc.(CNI), the first of its kind in Canada, is a resource centre created to help caregivers of the elderly and ill. Our goal is to make caregivers' lives easier by providing information on the Internet and in our newsletter (see CNI Services), education through the 13-part TV/video series "Caregiving with June Callwood", the Canadian Aging and Caregiving Resource Guide and personal assistance and support through our seminar series.

Caregiver Network has gained an international reputation for providing original and uniquely personal information to help family caregivers meet the challenges of aging and eldercare. Karen Henderson, CNI's founder, has become an acknowledged expert in the field; she has been asked to speak at conferences across Canada and in the U.S. and has been prominently featured on television, radio and in the print media.

Since 1996 the site has been home to the hundreds of pages of helpful, personal information that is the trademark of Karen's 14 year caregiving experience with her father Ralph, including her diary On My Mind, an honest portrait of what it was like to have a father living in a long-term care facility who suffered from vascular dementia, aphasia and arthritis. Karen's father died on Easter Monday, April 24, 2000.
