Music Therapy — Research & Workshops in Thailand

I have conducted music therapy research and workshops both in Thailand and abroad.
My music therapy research has involved the mentally disadvantaged children from the Rachanukul School in Bangkok and the physically handicapped at the Sawangkanivas Rehabilitation Center in Samuthprakarn. I also have performed cross-cultural research
on the use of Thai musical instruments as a tool in music therapy following the Japanese Akaboshi Music therapy method. While conducting field research in the northern Hmong Villages, I explored the therapeutic role of music in the ceremonies of Hmong shamans.
I also supervised thesis research projects on the
Phi Fa or Shaman of Isan. Isan is the traditional name of the Northeast region of Thailand. I also have been involved with many music therapy workshops and lectures abroad and is one of the founding members of the International Association of Music and Medicine. In 2008, I authored Thailand’s first music therapy book (in Thai) under the support of the Ministry of Health.

Annually at Chulalongkorn University, I dedicate my time as a guest lecturer in a "Music Therapy" course for over 100 undergraduate students as well as being a music therapist for
the “Art for All Camp" sponsored by the United Nations, the Thai National Lottery Fund, and the Art for All Foundation (AFA). The "Art for All Camp" has won a national award as the best project of the Year for 2003. The various AFA programs focused on easing the 4 main forms
of disabilities: blindness, deafness, and the mentally & physically disadvantaged. Through
my warm dedication in helping others, I have been invited to be a guest as well as a resource person for television and radio stations in Thailand.

My intention is to contribute my musical knowledge in pursuits that offer both help and hope for those who have less chance in society.
