On the improvement of the quality of noisy speech signals using a combination method between Adaptive Noise Cancellation and Magnitude Spectral Subtraction techniques

Abstract

A combination method between Adaptive Noise Cancellation and Magnitude Spectral Subtraction techniques is proposed in this paper to improve the quality of speech signals in a voice communication system, where received signal is usually distorted by the additive background noise. The proposed technique is based on a combination technique in [1]. The ability of noise reduction in terms of Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of the proposed method suggests improved performance, as compared to the use of stand-alone ANC or MSS techniques. Furthermore, the quality of noise-reduced speech signals is investigated by performing Subjective Listening Test.
