Rewrite the following sentences. Make them concise.

Example: One of the double-edged contributions of published research, assisted by media coverage, is to make certain                    terms current, popular, fashionable even.

Rewrite: When research works are widely published and special terms used become popular or even fashionable, the      results can be either positive or negative.

Text 1

With the emergence of the Knowledge-Based Economy, the movement to Web-based learning and training has universal appeal. The Internet has great potential to be used as a teaching and learning medium. The Internet can be used as a domain for educators to provide information and for learners to access information with great flexibility anytime and anywhere.

Acceptance and development of Web-based learning and training requires a paradigm shift in the mindset from the traditional mode of “brick and mortar” teaching.

In this paper, we will attempt to help bring about such changes through several key questions and deep insightful replies for target groups of people, namely management, technicians, educators and learners.

Complete the blanks in the passage below to make it meaningful.

What is Web-__________ training.

Web-based training (WBT) is about how instructional courseware can be delivered over the ___________ or a company’s intranet. Access to __________materials can be made through the usage of a Web browser, __________Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. The __________with its multimedia hypertext capabilities is able to __________highly interactive and ready resources without the constraint of space and time.

Where can __________-based training be delivered?

__________can be __________to any computer that has access to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider or via a company’s __________, for example, to a personal desktop computer at work or at home, or portable laptops for the mobile.

What are the differences between ___________ __________ and the traditional classroom training?

A Web-based classroom is highly conducive for learner-centered instruction to take place. Instructors can make the course information available to the __________to go through at their own pace and provide facilities that allow communication between the learners and the instructors. __________are encouraged to take more control of their own education.

This approach differs from the __________method of education, where learners have to be present. In a physical classroom and follow the path and pace set by their __________.

FEA’s flow to the future

Once the province of a subset of specialists, finite element analysis is reaching, an ever-greater population of engineers.

Jean Thilmany, Associate Editor

From its inception in the 1940s until about a decade ago, finite element analysis

had been performed exclusively by specialized analysts who held Ph.D's in the

discipline. But the FEA field has seen great change over the past 10 years,

with a jump in the number of computer technologies available to all levels

and types of engineers, according to Bruce Jenkins, vice president of

Daratech, a Cambridge, Mass., marketing and research firm.

FEA is the use of a complex system of points--called nodes--that form a grid,

or mesh, across a model. The engineer assigns _________at a particular

density throughout the material, depending on the anticipated stress levels

of a certain area. The __________contains the material and structural

properties, that define how the part will react to certain load conditions.

In essence, finite element analysis is a numerical method used to solve

a variety of engineering _________that involve stress analysis, heat transfer,

electro-magnetism, and fluid flow. If the _________finds fault with a model,

_________is sent back for remodeling to correct those faults before a

prototype is produced.

In the early 1970s, FEA was run only on mainframe computers owned mainly

by the aeronautics, defense, and nuclear industries, Jenkins said. With the

rapid decline in the cost of _________ and the concomitant increase in

computing power, today's personal computers can now produce accurate

FEA results. Many engineering technology vendors are currently marketing

simplified analysis, which walks users through a series of steps that allow

__________to define the analysis they want to run and then interpret the

analysis results, he added.

"That's what the new development is," Jenkins said. "A reliable aid that guides

users through the correct inputs, and then a correct interpretation of the _________.

And you can do design and analysis in the same environment."

The software is constructed to keep engineers from making a faulty or

inaccurate reading of the analysis results, he added.

It is clear that the __________is becoming a common part of the design cycle that

cannot be bypassed for ___________security.
