Powder-based Materials Powder processing provides a powerful route to form materials to near-net shape structures at relatively low temperatures. Materials ranging from ceramics to metals, and from composites to nanocrystalline materials can be produced effectively with such approach. Our research group develops powder processing technology for productions of powder-based materials for structural and engineering applications. Processing parameters for powder consolidation as well as the science of sintering are investigated in relation to microstructures of the materials. The knowledge gained from the studies can be utilized in designing powder-based materials with optimum properties, such as hardness, fracture toughness, wear resistance, and adhesion. |
