Two dead in 66-car crash on I-80
Clinton
County, Pennsylvania (ABC) – Two people died and several more were
injured Wednesday as over 60 cars crashed during a blizzard on a
central Pennsylvania highway, police said.
The pileup happened on Interstate-80 in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, about 175 miles northwest of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.
Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the county, predicting between 10 and 22 inches of snow in some areas. Residents were urged to stay home and avoid traveling unless it was absolutely necessary.
The Pennsylvania State Police Twitter page reported one confirmed fatality as a result of the accident and one confirmed death as a result of a medical emergency not associated with the crash. There were reports of injuries as well. A total of 66 vehicles were involved in the accident, 55 commercial vehicles and 11 passenger vehicles
State troopers are on the scene and are working with a number of tow trucks to try and clear an 8-mile stretch of I-80 that was closed because of the crash. The highway is expected to be opened early Friday.
On December 19, 2019, a similar blizzard pileup occurred on the highway that also killed two people.

Two people died and several more were injured Wednesday as between 30 and
60 cars crashed during a blizzard on a central Pennsylvania highway,
police said.
The pileup happened on Interstate 80 in Clinton County, Pa., about 175
miles northwest of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation said in an alert.
Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm
warning for the county, predicting between 10 and 22 inches of snow in
some areas.
“Please stay home and do not travel unless it is absolutely necessary,”
state police said in a tweet about the giant crash.
An 8-mile stretch of I-80 westbound was closed for several hours.
On Dec. 19, 2019, a similar blizzard pileup occurred about 20 miles east
on I-80 that also killed two people.
